Anyone ever try this skimmer. I need a skimmer for my 30g cube and I like the design of this one.

Just broke down my breeder system and I was really depressed so I broke down one of my sumps and cleaned it up… already had it drilled for sump useage so all I had to do was slap on an overflow box and transfer sand and rock from my other systems… I didnt realise how much I had until I brought the rock to the store to trade in for credit.
I had over 700 lbs of rock and I have no clue how much sand (4-6 inch sandbed with great amounts of baserock for jawfish in a 150 gal tank… you do the math. It hurts my head) I still have more rock than any one 55 gal should EVER have but I wanted to make sure I had what I needed. I traded just around 60 lbs of the rock for credit to get fish in the tank and the rest went on craigslist… there are some very happy people out there right now… I dont think I realized just how many copepodes can fit in one rock! THey went crazy in my tanks and I didnt even know it until I broke down the systems.
Now my brand spanking new 55 gal reef (if you can call it that) has been born! All I have are the corals I hadnt sold yet (5 of them) 2 clowns, pistel shrimp, yellow watchman, canary blenny, bicolor, and the cleaner crew I transfered from my system (hermits, aerowcrab, one very large mithrax crab that scared the shit out of my husband when he lifted a rock and he was suddenly nose to nose with him and one coral banded shrimp,) The setup isnt as beautiful as my old 125 gal and not nearly as intreaging as my breeder system, but I need cheering up so I will be posting pictures of it and taking suggestions on additions to my family. This is strictly peaceful setup. Reef with blennys and gobys, but I hope to have it running like my other systems soon. (cant find the pump I had on my protein skimmer so my hopes may get dashed if I dont kind it soon!!!)

i just bought a stand and a canopy from a friend that had a 55 gal tank on it, but it was actually made for a 75 gal. i am in the process of selling the 55 and i have a 75 gal tank on order that should be in by this thursday or friday. i am getting help from a friend who has been doing it for awhile. i already have the sump, and the protein skimmer. the brand name of the skimmer escapes me right now because its one that my friend has given me. ill chime back in when i remember it. the setup came with a t5 lighting system. it has 4 bulbs with 2 being actinic and 2 being regular. it also has the moon lights built in. i just bought a couple of powerheads and an overflow box based on his advice and i was curious what everyones thoughts on it are.

hows it going i just started my first salt water tank 4 days ago. Its 54 gallon and i have so many questions i hope you guys dont think there stupid questions lol
i will start off by showing you a picture of what i have so far

i bought the complete set up from someone for just under 300
it came with a filter for up to 70 gallons, a heater, the stand and top
a dual t5, a remora protein skimmer live rock and live sand
a power head and other little stuff

i tested my water and my nitrate and nitrite levels are normal but my tank has been running
everything with the exception of the protein skimmer since Monday is this normal, shouldn’t it be cycling by now?

Hello all,
I plan on starting my 16g tank soon. I am planning on it being a live rock with fish set up. It is going to have a 5 or 6 gallon sump tank (I was told show tank size / 3 = sump tank size).

Should I get all of my tanks and necessary pumps and hoses first, or go ahead and buy my sand, live rock and dead rock so it can start establishing and buy the protein skimmer, pump and smaller tank next pay check?

Also in the sump tank goes the heater and protein skimmer, what about the filter?

Another question I have is how exactly does one fill the tank? I know salt is needed, durf, but should I buy a bunch of bottles with purified water, or would tap water that will be treated with chemicals once in the tank do just fine?

Most of the information I have received so far is word of mouth by other tank owners, so it all might not be 100 percent correct.

Quick question here, it was suggested that I do no water changes and turn off the protein skimmer during the first week of cycling a tank. I disagree. How about you guys?
