A pic of our tank is here http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/…e/fulltank.jpg
From left to right, frogspawn (triple color), Xenia (since the pic has died), Flourescent green mushrooms below the Xenia – look very drab with the regular light, but a beautiful green in the actinic, next is a Very tight dense torch, below which is the large torch that the clowns host. I also have a mostly dead purple gorgonia which came with the live rock frags I got. Also have a gorgeous blue tricdna clam.

This hobby is so rewarding. I’m at a point where I want color, I see these amazing photos and youtube videos of tanks bursting with color, how can i get some? Which corals can I buy to add color, I thought those mushrooms would be great but look at them! (they’re happy and chubby tho!, and I’m currently fragging a one headed red mushroom)

This is a 29G biocube with a protein skimmer and a power head but stock lighting.
I was contemplating getting a small sun coral (am aware of feeding requirement), blue mushrooms or more orange, And some "plants" like red Gracillaria, red algae plant, Halimeda. Love love love hammer coral but yet to find a vibrant deep blue or deep green at my LFS.

Your guidance is requested.

Thanks

The 37 gallon Sea Max has been up for 2 years. Mushrooms are only 6 months new in tank.

This the same poor frag that has the 2 bristle worms and are very unhappy.
When the worm is slithering on the head the polyps shrivel up into a nub but do extend when the worm goes someplace else.

Today I see my Xenia’s pulsing! I waited around to see if this was because of the worm and no it wasn’t. These are the non pulsing kind of Xenia (no mistake). I took a video of them, do take a look and let me know if you’ve seen anything like this before?

You will also see my torch which the clowns are hosting. The torch has BJD, I siphoned off one soupy head yesterday and a some junk off of two other heads who have since then bloomed. While the whole frag is no where near the bloom I saw in the store, I am being patient.

Hello

I bought a nice sized Xenia frag yesterday.Clowns are looking at it but haven’t decided to investigate it yet, and i know they might not host even though i know plenty of people that have clowns that host Xenia.

My clowns are wild caught, not tank raised. An anemone is bound to kill other corals when it walks the tank I have heard, so I’m thinking of getting a frogspawn and torch one at a time to see if the clown like any of those.

Any ideas on how to encourage hosting? youtube has some videos from hobbyists.

also, thinking of getting an 8 gallon biocube and having a reef tank in it. with one clown. Not sure where i can actually "see" the tank as most stores seem only to carry the 29g.

thanks

Newbie here. Read online that people hand feed their soft corals like polyps with mysis shrimp. I’ve even seen pictures of corals trying to swallow a small hermit crab and trying to eat a fish that died and fell on it.

LFS says only feed the corals the filter foods and they’re good with photosynthesis (sp?) but online many people say feeding them brine shrimp or mysis shrimp, even blood worms makes the coral grow bigger and faster.

What is your take, do you hand feed your soft corals? Pros? Cons?

Thank you

I have 2 Pagodas, both in the tank about a year. One is in trouble – I’m sure. Its color faded from brown to a light blue, and the polyps have been retracted for over a month.

It does not appear to be deterriorating or decaying. By all appearances the flesh looks fine. Nonetheless, I believe it’s finished. It can’t survive without eating and without extended polyps, it can’t be eating very well, if at all.

Should I remove it?

Aight guys…. I have this badass 46 bow coral tank and just recently acquired a red coco worm and I’ve been observing it for a week or so now and I have noticed that the crown every like 5 to 7 seconds changes darker and lighter and it continues to alternate sides throughout the day. Does anyone have any comments or anything on this phenomena?! lol

OK, I messed up and the answer is wait and see but wanted some thoughts because I hate waiting. I hadnt tested my water for two months. I have a fairly heavly load hard coral tank (not crazy load like some picutres but working on it). Frogspwan with 50 heads, glaxia, acros etc. Anyway I had my system in balance and was adding the same amount of two part (home made) dosage to keep my alk and calcium up. As I said, I hadnt tested my water in two months and then noticed some white tips on one coral and then within a couple of days the whole thing died. This was about a 8 inch hard coral Then I saw some other white tips on some acros. I tested my water and my alk was great but my calcium had gone down to 330!!! I dosed the heck out of the tank over the next 24 hours. Calcium now up to 450 and watching it closely. The hard corals are looking a littlle dead on the ends, but the body is good. What is the chance of recovering?
