Pruning Finger Corals?

Pruning Finger Corals?

I have a 20 gal reef, so I don’t have much room to move things around. I have a finger coral that really can only be placed where it now resides, however, some of the branches are expanding and intruding on nearby polyp rocks (which also can’t really be moved.) The polyps are retreating and don’t appreciate the invasion.

Can I prune the branches of the finger coral to keep them away from the neighbors? What’s the good and the bad about this? I know I can propogate the trimmings, but I really don’t need any more finger corals. I really like the one I have, and don’t need anymore.

This pic was taken a month ago and the finger coral is much bigger now.
