Hello: Just about a month ago, a friend of mine moved to Arizona and, well, she GAVE me her Reef Aquarium. I have 2 Marine aquariums already, one is 75gal. and the other is 40gal. Both tanks are healthy and beautiful and I am very happy with them.
I mentioned some time ago that I wanted to start a Reef one but first I wanted to find out about it, bought a couple of books on this subject and thought about start buying the tank, stand, equipment, etc. and then, get to work on the rest.
Well, my friend didn’t want to risk damaging her tank and its inhabitants on the move so, since I have some experience with marine tanks, she just gave me her reef tank. She said that she knew I would take care of it and enjoy it.
This tank is 30gal. it came with a great filter, skimmer, power head, live rock with lots of different, beautiful soft corals, about 6 hermit crabs, 3 or 4 snails, 2 percula clowns, 3 damsels and 2 other fish that I don’t know their names.
It’s doing well but at the time she gave it to me, there was some green algae on the rocks and around the corals and I don’t know what to do about getting rid of it. I have gone and pluck some of it with my fingers and also I have changed the water on the tank once. I thought about getting a Yellow Tang to see if he can eat it and help me out but, I don’t want to crowd the aquarium and I know Tangs grow quite a bit, (I have one in my 75 gal and he is big).
So, what can I do to fix this. My other tanks don’t have this problem, specially this bad.
I hope I can get some suggestions on this forum.
Forgive me for the length of this post and thank you in advance for your help.
Maria.
