Full Water change ever so often?
In May I will have had my reef tank for 2 years now. I have been changing 5g each week with the occasional 10g (not that often but several times) for the 40g tank. A few months back I posted about my (HOB but was expensive IMO) Deltec MCE600 stop skimming. However after working with Deltec it became apparent that my water parameters were off and once corrected (huge water changes) the Deltec worked great again. It made me wonder if some of the more experienced reefers change out large amounts of tank water on a regular basis. Like should I plan on changing 50% of water out a couple weeks in row at least once a year ? I’m thinking my tank probably would have crashed if the skimmer didnt tip off the problem. Do many of you who have had reef tanks for years change out extra water each year over the 10% recom per week ?
