Eheim = LEAKS

Eheim offers no repairs in USA, poor tech support, and high prices for repair parts. My Eheim sits in a bucket due to countless leaks...
Not worth the money

Reviewer: Daniel T. Whittaker,
I bought this based on my experience with the larger model, and was disappointed as soon as I opened the package. The instructions were less then helpful, the devise hard to install, and at the end when I thought it would all be worth it, a major piece failed (the plastic rotatable joint that feeds the filtered water back into the tank), leaving me to clean up a growing puddle of water, and reinstall my old filter. Overall, I would say, save a bit longer, buy the more expensive model and save yourself the aggravation and ultimate disappointment.
Works, could be better.

Reviewer: o_O,
The product i received had a hairline crack in the U-bend on the suction line. The overall build of the filter does seem a little flimsy, I'm sure if your not careless with disassembly and assembly this filter could last a long time. Would rather they had separate baskets for the different media, this would make it easier to change out specific media if you needed to. The ball valves and quick disconnects work great, but they do trap a small but of water in between them so have something to catch it or use a rag. The filter is pretty darn quiet itself (The pump), and depending on how you set up the discharge it can be louder or quieter ( The water noise not the pump). The discharge doesn't add a lot of flow overall but it does stir up the water on the surface. Be careful when you cut your tygon tubing, measure twice cut once or you may be unhappy with the lengths. Everything seems leak tight as long as you don't overtighten anything and cut the O-rings.
great product

Reviewer: Jerry D. Freter,
This product is pretty good. Like everyone else, I found the directions a little hard to follow. I had to flip between the drawings on the German pages and the words in English and also reference the pictures in the box. One I decided to throw the directions away and use basic common sense, I pieced it together.

I was skeptical about the pump when I first turned it on. It didn't seem to flow that much water compared to the Fluval 305 I had before (which cracked the housing). But this filter worked just about perfectly. My water is as clear as the Fluval made it for about half the cost. And it is about a billion times better than the hang on the back filters. I had to use an old one for a couple weeks until I ordered this one and received it. It is well worth the money. The only improvement I would make is to improve the documentation and directions. As an engineer, I was able to figure out how this should work and got it installed in under an hour.

The initial filling is a little tricky. You kind of need to suck on the discharge hose (hopefully before putting it into the tank water) to start the siphon, then let gravity do the rest to fill it. Subsequent filter cleanings are easy. Just shut the two inlet and two outlet valves, unscrew the two valves and clean. Then reconnect the valves and open the outlet first, then inlet. The siphon will fill it fast.
best filter for the money

The record February snow storm in Dallas cut power to the house and ended up killing our old, Eclipse 2 equipped, 30 gallon aquarium. The Eclipse 2 was ok, but the filter seemed to become full within 2-3 weeks.

We visited a local aquarium supply store, and the Eheim filters were very highly recommended. Unfortunately, the 2213 was priced about $50 more than I found it for on Amazon.

Our tank sits on a built in shelf in our TV room/den, and we were excited about moving the pump/filter to the shelf below the aquarium. It's a much quieter arrangement, as the pump/filter is concealed by books. Standing at the aquarium, there is a slight hum, but mostly what is heard is the water flowing through the tank pipes. With our 30 gallon aquarium, and a flow rate of 116 gph, the pump changes the water approximately 4 times per hour, keeping the water crystal clear.

As far a maintenance, it couldn't be easier. With the Elipse 2, there was a balancing act required to get the hood to the sink or tub without spilling any water. Now with the 2213, you shut the valves to and from the pump, unhook the quick connections, then you're able to take the pump to the sink, and change the filter media by releasing 4 quick-release tabs.

Even though the set-up instructions are not very detailed, I found the 2213 very easy to assemble and set up; I had the system operating about 30 minutes. If you have a stand aquarium or a shelf arrangement like ours, I think you will enjoy having a canister-type pump/filter, and I highly recommend the ease of operation and quality of Eheim products.
