culturing phyto and rotifers

i recently started to grow phyto for my 55gal reef tank and was thinking about growing rotifers or copepods. Does anyone have any suggestions whether i should grow rotifers or copepods; and depending on which ones i grow can i feed them the phyto im growing or should i buy food for them?
