I’m setting up a 55 gal reef tank. It will hold mostly Soft corals maybe one LPS or two. Is 4 HO T5′s enough for my tank?

setting up a 60g reef, how much live rock do I need to get, and what type of bottom media would be best? Live sand/mud, crushed coral? And what salt brand is good/better/best/ And more importantly what are the hardier type of corals to start with.
Used to have salt a while back(15yrs ago) but I have mainly been breeding freshwater Angels and Discus in a 240g. But have sold the 240g and need a refresher course.

I just recently moved from Louisiana to loyalsock, pa. I’m looking for salt water shops/stores around the area. I’m wanting to set up a new tank. I used to have a 120 gallon. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings, I hope this is the right spot for this question. Right now I am planning on making a 42 gallon Hex tank that I am "ressurecting" after a long period of disuse. I want to make it an invertebrate/sea horse tank. This is my second foray into reef aquarium keeping and my first to be quite blunt wasn’t too successful. I am hoping for a better second showing.

Right now I plan on using the following equipment on my tank:

1. RENA XP3 Cannister Filter
2. Aquarium Systems SeaClone 100 Protein Skimmer
3. Odyssea 24" 298W Metal Halide System
4. 2 Hydor Koralia Magnum 6
5. FluVal LCD Heater

My goal is to have mainly invertebrates in the tank. I was interested in the Mandarin Goby as well as Sea Horses as well. However my primary goal is to keep invertebrates. Is there anything else in my setup that I should be considering? Thank you in advance.

Good morning this is my first post! I set up my first sw tank ever last week. It’s a 36 gal bow front with a protien filter, heater, circulating fan? I put in a hydrometer yesterday the readings are SG 1.023 salinity 33.4 temp 78-80. If I am reading the directions correctly I believe I need to lower my tank temperature 2 degrees to achieve the optimum reading of Specific Gravity 1.021 and salinity of 30.6. Am I on the right track? So far in my tank I have 4 starter fish one shrimp one grobby ten snails ten crabs. Tank has been up ten days water is super clear I have 20 pounds live rock 20 pounds dry sand 15 pounds live sand. Thank you in advance for your reply! Christi

So ive just installed my new tank with refugium and everything is great except the loud noise from the drain to the fuge beause the air in it. Is there any way to quiet that down? and i’ve already made the drain pipe straight where theres no curling. could that be the problem? any suggestions? thanx for the help in advance!

I have now had my 90 gallon take running for about five months now and only have a maroon clownfish with about 180lbs of live sand. The filtration is in a 75 gallon sump, a reef octopus protein skimmer a, activated carbon and a refugium. As for the lighting i have two 150 watt metal haliade bulbs. Now my question is, is my tank done cycling, and i also want to kno about how many fish can i put in there, like for a predator tank or a community tank???

Hi if you’ve seen any of my other posts, I’m going to be setting up a 90 gallon tank in the near future, I have a 40 gallon right now and im uping to a 55 very soon with my plans down the road for a 90. the thing is, I want to build my own stand, and only want to build it once. so i figure i’ll build it for a 90 and the 55 will fit on it length wise with some depth left over. the problem is i dont have access to the dimensions of a predrilled 90 gallon tank. I’m obviously going to have to take into account the drain holes and will have to build my stand accordingly. I planned on using 4x4s as uprights to support my tank but the back right corner will probably be taken up by drain holes making a 4×4 impossible. if anyone has advice on building the stand please please feel free to pass on your wisdom. we’re working with a full carpenters setup so measurements and the whole "can i do it" isn’t an issue i just need to know what to do. thanks, ut:

hi, i have a 40 gallon reef running at the moment, and im probably going to be upgrading to a 75 or 90 gallon in the near future. i’m going to custom build my stand, as i would like to fit my 40 gallon in the bottom of it for a sump, and i was planning on running a canister filter, and a protein skimmer, i have the seaclone 100 right now, and i’ll be upgrading…it blows. i was wondering how the coralife 220 is, and if anyone could suggest a good canister filter, im basically only looking to keep a few softies like mushrooms and xenia, maybe some button polyps so i dont want to do a fug. i’d like a high fish bioload instead. i’ll be upgrading to a 48" t5 hood maybe 4-6 bulbs just in case the coral bug ever bites again. any advice, or thoughts are very appreciated! thanks ut:

i have 25 lbs of live sand and 25lbs of live rock
so far i noticed some snails,hermit crabs and brown polyps on the rock
day 2 and all my levels seem to be correct
hopefully i see some cycling this week
the lps said because i have all the sand and rock ,it probably cycle faster
i have 76watts of t5 lighting
I’m at $500 thats with rock and water and everything you see.
I saved money buy making what i can and looking online for good deals
