adding sand bed

My 75 gallon is running quite nicely with no filtration whatsoever, only live rock and 1 powerhead. I’m thinking of adding a sandbed, mostly for aesthetic purposes and possible raising of ph (to increase coralline ), what do you think? How much, what type(black might be nice), benefits/possible complications. Any thoughts?
